Anybody that knows me knows that I will recommend this book series until the sun goes down. The first one drew me in with it's mystery, world building, and kick ass main character, Zara Cole, who reminded me of a young Jax. The start of the relationship between her, Nadim and Beatriz warmed my heart. And then that ending sucker punched me. I had to get more.
Honor Bound starts where the last ended and we get a lot more of Starcurrent, the tentacle alien with pronoun ze. I love zem and need to know more about their species! Near the end of the book there is an additional alien brought into the group and oh boy... no spoilers but I love them. It is almost not fair how many cool loveable aliens there are here.
There is also an interesting story here, readers. We learn more about the galaxy/universe beyond Earth by way of a space station, Sliver. Zara is back at home in a pirate harbor like this and it's great to see her stretch her muscles. We also watch her relationships with all of the characters grow while exploring the mysteries of the Phage and even more that humans never knew about.
Can't wait for the next one. Now read the books! - Zara, Beatriz, and young Leviathan Nadim barely escaped Bk 1 in this series with their lives. Now they need to get armor and weaponry for Nadim, similar to what their Elder Leviathan Typhon has.
Leviathans travel with two Honors (crew). Our combined Honors now number six because a pair of one human and one alien had lost their Leviathan to the Phage war.
I really enjoyed getting to know the new Honors, especially the alien Starcurrent. All of the Honors really jelled into a tight team in Book Two. (And the snarky autodoc with an attitude was hysterical!)
To get the armor and other needed supplies the two crews head to the Sliver. Good thing Zara was a thief growing up in a very tough neighborhood because the Sliver is as rough as it gets and does NOT accept cash!
Highly recommended both for space opera fans and for character-driven plot fans (especially for Zara's quick thinking on her feet!). - The first 70% of the book was just boring. All time spend on that space station. After that the book picked up speed and started to be just as good as the first one. Only that it ended on a cliffhanger. I guess it's a ok second book, but it's should be a 2$ book, and not a 10$ one. It's nothing like the first book.
- First of all, I love science fiction novels, and secondly, I love Rachel Caine's writing & world-building from all her preceding novels. So I admit I came into these expecting to like them; I did NOT expect to get completely sucked into them to point of near-obsession, unable to stop reading from the first book to this one. (I also reviewed the first book thinking it was the second one - the dangers of the similar-sounding titles & my sieve of a brain) This book ends in a killer cliffhanger that I am going to be on tenterhooks about until the next title is released!
I love that the primary protagonist is a badass woman of color, that nearly all her companions are likewise representative of the true diversity of the universe (in that they're not all white dudes), and that this isn't used as a point of the plots or storyline, just demonstrative of the fact that the universe and those who inhabit it aren't going to all be humanoid, male, or caucasian.
The symbiotic relationship between the two primary protags is incredibly cool world-building, and I can't wait to see how much further Nadim & Zara can take their relationship with Beatrice to back them up. - I absolutely love this series, and as someone who is so used to basically always finding a book wanting in any ways or one this book delivered in every category, vivid imagery, spectacular well paced plot, and the main character is multifaceted, along with the side charrecters, this book explodes off the page, and touches the reader in a way that not only make you feel like one if the crew, but pushes you to expand your outlook on life and Adventure, hands down amazing book of all time, and can I also say I am happy beyond words that the main characters are POC, and cognitive of their heritage's, and it's effects. Please don't stop making books like this, this world really needs these kinda of books.
- Well that was fun, first two books zipped right along. 2nd book ends in a huge cliffhanger with no pre-order info for the 3rd. That tells me that I'll long have forgotten the storyline by the time the third volume comes around, knocking off a star for the time gap. I will say I like Rachael Caine's work. She is definitely not a one genre writer.
- Love the main character, a kick butt gal!!! The 2 authors make an interesting story together. In contrast to the other review I enjoyed the first part on Sliver. Looking forward to the next. Hope it comes out soon.
- I really enjoyed this second book. The characters are so colorful and the storyline flowed quite well. I am nervous/excited for the next entry. I’ve grown attached to the main characters.
