"It is about The Little Red Hen's grandson who finds her cookbook and decides to make strawberry shortcake. He has some friends volunteer to help him, and it is silly and funny! A great book to introduce measuring and baking. The animals need flour, not flower, or find out a tablespoon is not found under a table, etc. The recipe for making strawberry shortcake is also included at the end. My kindergarten students really enjoyed this book, but great for first and second graders, too!"

- It is about The Little Red Hen's grandson who finds her cookbook and decides to make strawberry shortcake. He has some friends volunteer to help him, and it is silly and funny! A great book to introduce measuring and baking. The animals need flour, not flower, or find out a tablespoon is not found under a table, etc. The recipe for making strawberry shortcake is also included at the end. My kindergarten students really enjoyed this book, but great for first and second graders, too!
- Illustrations are beautiful with lots of extras for multiple readings. The story is a take off on the Little Red Hen. One of many Janet Stevens books to be cherished and enjoyed.
- This book is hilarious. First time I read it to my 4 years old daughter, I laughed by behind off, so did she. The story is so funny itself and illustrations are well supporting the content. The story is also very educational, gives you an explanations on a special fields about different aspects ot making a strawberry shortcake and the recepie at the end. So you can laugh with your child first and then make a cake together.
- I have shown this book to every mom I know. It is a precious, fun story with great pictures but it's also full of teachable moments. I've even used it in my graduate classes on education to demonstrate how to teach a fun math lesson to littles. Love it!
- This is a wonderful book for children who love strawberry short cake and want to learn to cook. It is best if they are already familiar with the story of The Little Red Hen, or that you read it as a companion book, as this is the story of her great grand son. I read the book aloud without the cooking guidelines (listed on the side). The guidelines are however a handy reference, when it comes to actually baking a shortcake.
My Grown up -Children still enjoy reading aloud this book when we " go to baking a short Cake" together. I use my family recipe rather than the one in the book - just to follow in the tradition of the book. But all in all it is a great book. - I first checked this out from the library and my boys loved it so much I had to buy it. My boys are now 9 and 11 and they still like to read this book and giggle! I always buy this book as a baby shower gift, it has become a family favorite!!!
- Loved this book, originally borrowed from the library and needed a copy of my own.
- My daughter checked this book out from the library 6 times and we've made the recipe for Strawberry Shortcake 3 times. We read the story with voices as we follow the recipe. She loves it.
